No Fake Smiles!

What do you do when you don’t get the job?

DSC_0473_pp2If you’re an Actor, what do you do when you’re not working – as an Actor? Do you question if acting is what you were really meant to do? Do you pile on more audition workshops so that you can learn how to be a better “auditioner?” Or do you give up, and just try something else?

At JSA, we know that “getting the job” is great validation, but we also know that we must remember constantly what we were called to do even if we don’t get the job. To this end, we work on getting to the core of who we are so that we can unapologetically expose our vulnerabilities and weaknesses when needed OR our strength and courage if appropriate. As Actors, we must understand that the masses come to “us” to show them truth. And we know this is not an easy task. So, at JSA, we focus on more than just getting a “job,” but also on being the vessel we were meant to be, so that when we get that job (or better yet – when we create it), we’ll be ready. That’s what we mean by “No Fake Smiles.”

At JSA, we’ll constantly remind you that if you have chosen this path for the right reasons, then you can do this. We’ll help you strip away the lies to get to the core of honest, vulnerable performances. And, we do this through monologues, scene study and writing (we’ll talk more about writing and how this helps later.) jsa postcards front

Join us for a FREE preview of JSA on Sunday, December 2 to find out if our philosophy resonates with you. We’ve also invited some industry professionals who will share important insight.

We’d love you to come explore with us in 2013. Stay tuned for the January – March 2013 schedule. And remember…“No Fake Smiles!”
